Informatica 10 new features

Informatica version 10 provides a unified and fully integrated platform for all styles of data integration like ETL / ELT, Virtualization, Big Data Edition along with supporting a wider data management life-cycle including profiling, data quality, business glossary, and testing. The basic foundation for the latest version 10 is the intelligent data platform.

Features which i like from developers point of view are

Dynamic Mappings

Dynamic Mappings Effective in version 10.0, you can configure dynamic mappings to change sources, targets, and transformation logic at run time based on parameters and rules that you define. You can determine which ports a transformation receives, which ports to use in the transformation logic, and which links to establish between transformation groups. Dynamic mappings enable you to manage frequent metadata changes to the data sources or to reuse the mapping logic for different data sources with different schemas

Dynamic mappings include the following features that you can configure: • Dynamic sources allow changes to the metadata in flat file and relational sources at run time. When the metadata in a flat file or relational source changes, Read and Lookup transformations can get data object columns directly from the dynamic sources at run time.

Native Connectivity to Microsoft SQL Server Effective in version 10.0

You can use the DataDirect ODBC driver for Microsoft SQL Server to configure native connectivity to Microsoft SQL Server databases from UNIX machines. You can select the connection provider that you want to use to connect to the Microsoft SQL Server database. You can select either the ODBC or OLE DB connection type. You can also enable the Integration Service to use the Data Source Name (DSN) for the connection. Additionally, you can use NTLM authentication to authenticate the user who connects to Microsoft SQL Server.

Read and write from Hadoop Cluster

Effective in version 10.0, you can enable the PowerCenter Integration Service and PowerCenter client to read from and write to a Hadoop cluster that uses a highly available NameNode.

Other Features of version 10 at a glance & the overall impact:

  • More features for Business Users on Data Analyst and Metadata management
  • Improved Administrator experience
  • Build in Intelligence to improve performance
  • Better designs with enforced best practices on code development, May reduce development effort drastically for common use cases
  • Code integration with external Software Configuration tools
  • Not much for Architects
  • Hardware upgrade is must for V10
  • Lot of new features are part of Data Integration and Data Governance area.
  • Traditional Users will not be impressed much since there are no new features in traditional products like PC, MDM, B2B
